Yes. Every effort is made to ensure proper placement and disposal of needles. As part of our state licensing requirements, we have received safety certifications.
Usually, you feel nothing at all. Acupuncture needles are hair-fine, solid needles, much different than the needles used for injections. Occasionally you may feel a pinch or a slight ache, however most people find the experience pain-free, pleasant, and relaxing.
Your first visit includes a treatment, as well as a discussion about your health history and condition. This appointment typically takes about an hour. Return visits focus on treatment, and usually take 45 minutes to an hour. See our Visit Info page to learn more.
Every person has a different health history, need, and capacity to heal. We will recommend a course of treatment that fits you. Acupuncture is a form of therapy, and often more than one visit is necessary for healing. Typically, acute conditions take 4-6 treatments to resolve, while chronic ailments can take 10-20 or more. In all cases, we will work with you to create a treatment plan and evaluate your progress along the way.
No, we do not accept insurance. This is because we want to make the treatment process as simple and pleasant as possible. However, we hope that our fee ranges fits your budget, much like an insurance co-pay. If you wish to bill your insurance company for reimbursement, please request a receipt and we will accommodate you. You can find more info about our fee ranges on our Visit Info page.
Absolutely! Often, patients who come in for one issue will notice improvement in something seemingly unrelated. Acupuncture also seems to have the “side effect” of helping to reduce stress, promote better sleep, and increase energy.
Not at all- we like skeptics. Animals get good results from acupuncture, just like people, and we are pretty sure that they don’t believe in it. All you need is enough of an open mind to come try it out, and see what works for you.
Yes, you can combine acupuncture with almost anything, that’s one of the lovely things about it. Nothing is going to make it less effective, and it won’t interfere with anything else. It’s one of the reasons so many doctors refer their patients to acupuncture. Treatments such as massage, chiropractic/osteopathic treatment, medication, exercise, and others are often well paired with acupuncture.
At your New Patient visit, we will discuss your health history in an area separate from the treatment room. For follow-up visits, we will rely less on dialogue, and more on channel and pulse diagnosis as well as physical evaluation. We will talk to you in a low whisper in the treatment room if needed before applying the needles.
